What is SharePoint and how does it help you work together?

What is SharePoint?

Microsoft SharePoint is part of Microsoft 365 and provides a secure environment in which to collaborate, store and share files. Anyone with a Microsoft365 subscription has access to Microsoft SharePoint. In SharePoint, multiple people can work simultaneously on a single document. You understand: SharePoint is indispensable within any organization where you want to work together, share knowledge while security is guaranteed. Indispensable within any digital workplace.

The possibilities of SharePoint

In SharePoint, you can easily open, save, organize and share documents. This can be done from any device, all you need is a web browser. SharePoint is configurable in many different ways: for example, SharePoint can also be used to create an intranet or extranet solution, a website, a communication portal or a document management & storage. It is now used by more than 200,000 organizations and 190 million people.

Better sWorking with SharePoint

We said it before: SharePoint is indispensable within any organization in which you want to collaborate and share knowledge. But why? What features of SharePoint actually make collaboration easier, better, more efficient and safer? We explain it to you.

Easily give and receive authorizations

SharePoint features a permissions structure, therefore you easily have and grant permissions so that you and your colleagues can work on files together.

Collaborate internal and external relationships

Not only can you grant permissions to colleagues, external relations can also be authorized to your documents. This allows you to work on files together with colleagues and relations from outside your organization. Of course, you always have control over which folders and files you grant access to.

Working on a file with multiple people at the same time

Collaborating on files is then very easy. A document can in fact be opened and edited by several people at the same time. You see almost live, at least within 0.5 seconds, what your colleague has modified in the document.

Version History

You see that your colleague has modified something in a file, but you also see that a mistake was made. No point: SharePoint features version history that lets you go back a version at the touch of a button.

Share document links with each other instead of large email attachments

SharePoint is a website, therefore you do not need to send complete documents but only a link of the file to each other. This saves quite a bit of storage space! In addition, you can be sure that the recipient always has the latest version in their hands and you monitor version control.

Online and offline

Internet outage or find yourself in the middle of nowhere without any signal? No worries, you can still get in and access all your documents and files. As soon as your device has internet again, all changes are made automatically. So you can continue working worry-free anywhere, Internet or not.

Teams and SharePoint

Is your organization already using Microsoft Teams? If so, the above story is undoubtedly familiar to you. That's because SharePoint is the content service for Teams. For the documents section (files) in Teams, SharePoint is used. So you can open files in SharePoint from Teams and vice versa.
